"Free lounge access" sold a lot of credit cards — and in 2026 it's the benefit issuers are quietly clawing back. Most cards now spend-gate lounge entry, and since 10 June 2025 domestic access shifted to a voucher-based milestone program (you present a lounge voucher, not just swipe the card). Here's what still works, what the conditions really are, and the one zero-fee card that bucks the trend.
The 2026 lounge reality
Three things changed:
- Spend conditions: most cards now require a minimum spend in the previous quarter/month to unlock the next set of lounge visits.
- Voucher-based domestic access (since June 2025): instead of swiping your card at the lounge, you generate a lounge voucher (via the issuer app/portal) on hitting the milestone, then present it. Forget to generate it and you don't get in.
- Networks: international access runs on Priority Pass (1,300+ lounges) or LoungeKey (1,000+), and usually needs separate Priority Pass activation.
Cards that still deliver lounge access
| Card | Lounge access | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Federal Scapia | Unlimited domestic | Zero fee; spend ₹20,000 the previous month |
| Axis Atlas | Up to 18 domestic / 12 international (tiered) | ₹50,000 spend in previous 3 months for domestic; tier-based (Silver 8 / Gold 12 / Platinum 18) |
| HDFC Regalia Gold | Domestic + Priority Pass international | Domestic now spend-gated (₹60,000/quarter) |
| Premium (Infinia / Diners Black) | Broad domestic + international | High fee/eligibility — see our Infinia vs Diners guide |
The zero-fee exception: Scapia
The standout for cost-conscious flyers is the Federal Bank Scapia — zero joining and annual fee, with unlimited domestic lounge access when you spend ₹20,000 in the previous month (a low bar for most). If lounge access is your only goal and you don't want to pay a fee, this is the value pick.
Priority Pass: read the fine print
Most "international lounge access" cards bundle a Priority Pass membership — but the number of free visits, whether guests are included, and whether you must activate the membership first all vary by card. Some cards give the membership but charge per visit; others include a set number of free visits. Always check: (1) free visits/year, (2) guest policy, (3) activation requirement.
Don't pay for lounge access you won't use
A premium card's high annual fee is often justified "for the lounge access" — but if you fly 2-3 times a year, the math rarely works versus a zero-fee Scapia or buying a Priority Pass visit outright. Match the card to your actual flying frequency, not the aspiration.
FAQ
Which credit card gives unlimited free lounge access in India?
The zero-fee Federal Scapia offers unlimited domestic lounge access on spending ₹20,000 the previous month. Top premium cards (Infinia, Diners Black) give broad access but at high fees.
Why couldn't I get into the lounge with my card recently?
Since June 2025, domestic access is voucher-based — you must generate a lounge voucher from your issuer's app on hitting the spend milestone, then present it. A bare card swipe may not work.
Is Priority Pass automatically active?
Often not — many cards require you to activate the Priority Pass membership and may limit free visits or charge for guests. Check your card's terms.
Do I need a premium card for lounge access?
No. Zero-fee/low-fee cards like Scapia and mid-tier cards give lounge access with modest spend conditions. Premium cards add more visits + international breadth.
