₹5,000 fee. 5pt/₹150 (3.33%) on ALL spends including vendor payments, supplies, software. CRITICAL: no annual cap on accelerated rewards. Small biz with consistent ₹1-3L/month spend earns ₹40K-100K/year vs the ₹3-5L annual cap that Magnus / Infinia impose.

₹12,500 fee. 12X reward points on partner brands (Flipkart, Tata CLiQ, MakeMyTrip, Vistara) — converts to ~6% effective return. For SMBs running B2B Flipkart Ads or booking client travel via MMT, the partner-tier accelerated rate compensates for the high fee.

₹5,000 fee. 5 Edge Miles per ₹100 on travel × 1:2 transfer to Vistara / Marriott Bonvoy. For SMBs whose primary business spend IS travel (consultants, sales-led founders, conference circuit), this beats higher-fee cards at a fifth the joining bar.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use personal credit cards for business expenses in India?
Yes — pre-corporate-card-eligibility (typically ₹5L+ MRR or ₹1Cr+ revenue), most Indian small businesses run on personal credit cards. Tax treatment: business expense incurred on personal card is still deductible against business income — keep separate ledger entries + invoice receipts. Card statement showing the merchant + amount + GST is sufficient backup. Reimburse yourself monthly from business bank to keep accounting clean.
Should sole proprietors apply for business credit cards?
India-issued business credit cards (Axis Bank Business Select, HDFC Business Regalia, SBI Business Card) are available to sole proprietors with GST registration and ITR for 2+ years. BUT: the reward structures are typically WEAKER than the comparable personal card from the same issuer. Most sole props get better economics from a high-end personal card (Magnus / Infinia / Ultimate) than the bank's business variant. Move to business cards only after incorporating (LLP / Pvt Ltd) when accounting separation becomes legally required.
Can I claim GST input credit on credit card fees?
Yes — annual fees, joining fees, late payment fees, and forex markup are all charged with 18% GST. The GST component IS claimable as input credit IF the card is genuinely used for business spends AND the card is associated with a GST-registered business identity (not pure personal). Practical workflow: claim input credit on a pro-rata basis matching the % of card spend that's business-deductible. Talk to your CA — this requires documentation.
What's the corporate card path for SMBs?
Domestic corporate card options for incorporated SMBs (Pvt Ltd / LLP): Razorpay X Corporate Card (~₹1Cr revenue minimum), Karbon Card (early-stage friendly, ₹50L+ revenue), Open Money corporate card, Brex India (waitlist), Cashfree corporate cards. Premium banks (HDFC, ICICI, Axis) offer corporate card programs for ₹5Cr+ revenue companies. The transition usually makes sense post-Series-A or post-₹1Cr ARR.
Do credit card rewards on business spend count as business income?
Rewards earned on personal cards (even if used for business spend) are personal income, not business income — the spend was technically personal, business reimbursed the cost. Rewards earned on cards held in the company's name ARE business income. Cashback and reward points on the personal card flow to the founder/owner as tax-free benefits under Section 56(2)(x) unless a single redemption exceeds ₹50,000. SMB owners typically structure spend through personal cards specifically to retain reward ownership.
What about cards for GST / TDS payments?
GST / TDS payments via the income-tax portal accept credit cards but most cards EXCLUDE government payments from rewards (the 'utility / government' carve-out applies). Rare exception: ICICI Bank's Coral / Rubyx variants give limited rewards on tax payments. The optimal flow: pay GST/TDS via UPI from business bank account (zero fees, instant settlement) rather than route through credit card.
